Hello. I’m Angel

I’m Angel Alcantar, a 32-year-old with a passion for faith and exploration. Although I didn’t grow up in the church, I found my spiritual home at the Hayward Church of Christ in California, where I was baptized at the age of 18. I continued my journey at Freed-Hardeman University, earning a Bachelor of Science degree in Psychology in 2016. Along the way, I became actively involved in the Mankato church of Christ in Minnesota, leading songs and preaching. Currently residing in Texas, I’m excited about the opportunities that lie ahead.
Japan has always captivated me, starting with my early exposure to Japanese martial arts as a child. I even took Japanese language courses in high school and college. Surprisingly, I discovered a lack of emphasis on Japan as a mission field, which piqued my curiosity and fueled my research into missions and spiritual engagement in Japan.
When I’m not pursuing my calling, I enjoy baking, hiking, watching movies and TV shows, and sharing meals with friends. Aikido and Go are among my interests, and I find solace in practicing them.
I’m accompanied on my mission to Japan by my two cats, Hank and Dawn, who are both about 4 years old. Hank is a lovable attention seeker who adores food and pets, while Dawn is a charming lady who demands attention once she warms up to you. They’ll do their best to spread the Gospel too.
To deepen my biblical knowledge, I’ve enrolled in the online Bachelor of Biblical Studies program at Sunset International Bible Institute. While managing my other responsibilities, I plan to take a few courses at a time during this transitional period into Japan. Through this educational opportunity, I aim to enhance my understanding of the Scriptures and improve my ability to effectively communicate their message.
I’m excited to embark on this journey, combining my faith, passion for Japan, and desire to serve others.
